Churches often debate the proper form of worship. Should a priest preside? What style of music? Which instruments should be included...and not included? Does the stage matter? What elements should worship include; prayer, Scripture reading, music, and preaching? Do we really need a fog machine and all those lights? When is the best time to worship? These are all basic and common questions, but they don't get at the heart of the issue.
For Jesus, the real question is not about the style of worship but about the heart of the worshipper. Real worship comes from the Spirit and Truth. In the gospel of John, the Spirit is the Holy Spirit and Jesus is identified as the embodiment of Truth. In this new understanding of worship a person worships the Father, as experienced through Jesus, and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
