All
Christians know they need to be better at something pertaining to
their faith in God. The list if fairly common; more godly man
or woman, better husband, wife or parent. Read the Bible more and
pray. Become more involved in ministry. Courage to share
ones faith. Do these sound familiar?
If so many Christians feel this way, what is it going to take
to make the change? Enter
spiritual disciplines; practices found in
Scripture that promote spiritual growth among followers of
Jesus. Actions like dedicated prayer, Scripture
reading and solitude. Fasting, worship and generosity.
They sound ominous, maybe even a bit overwhelming. Maybe instead of
looking at these spiritual disciplines as barriers, what if we
looked at them differently. What if we viewed spiritual disciplines
as the practices we engage in to make sure "the big rocks" of
our faith journey go in first?
As a
church family, we are going to spend the next few weeks united
together in the practice of three specific spiritual
disciplines, Scripture Reading, Prayer, and
Fasting. It
is our goal that we will deepen our faith and dependance upon God,
not only individually, but as a church family as
well.
