Nothing empowers a marathon runner more than seeing the finish line on the horizon.  Nothing energizes people in their work like seeing the final pieces of the project fall into place.  There is nothing that stokes the fire of perseverance more then seeing the physical transformation beginning to take place in the mirror.  When we have a picture of our destination set before us, it creates an extra level of motivation to stick with the program and not give up.

Following Jesus is hard.  One needs the power of the Holy Spirit, grit and a community of people walking in the same direction; this is a journey that no one can take alone.  There is also one other essential ingredient when it comes to being motivated in our life of faith: A Clear Picture of Our Destination.

Throughout the Bible there are these glimpses of a "new heaven and new earth" (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13).  The idea that one day, God is going to make all things new and unite heaven and earth in this amazing unified relationship.  This is such a helpful picture of the future, and if we are honest, much better then the way current culture depicts going to heaven.  Think about it, what do most people picture when they think of going to heaven?  Clouds, pearly gates, floating spirits, harps and a lot of singing...some people might consider that, the other place!

Instead, what the Bible teaches is a real tangible earth, with trees, streams and a city.  Most importantly Jesus is there along with all those who have remained faithful.  Do you know what's not there?   Read what the author of Revelation writes:
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." ~ Revelation 21:4

Sounds amazing doesn't it?  Do you want to learn more?  Looking for some motivation to remain faithful?  Give a listen to this sermon, it might be exactly what you need to keep on keeping on!
