When was the last time you took a good look at a
dandelion? Oh, you probably see them all the time right now,
but when did you look at it closely? It's really an amazing
plant, with a fascinating system of multiplication! Have you
ever looked closely at those tiny seeds attached to those feathery
parachutes? It's really an amazing multiplication
design! As many of us know, it doesn't take long for
dandelion plants to literally overwhelm a yard...but isn't
that the point?
Honestly, the church can learn a lot from a dandelion
plant. Most churches use a simple addition strategy; add a
person here, then add a person there. While it can slowly
work, it doesn't have near the impact of multiplication!
Multiplication is what Jesus intended for his
church.
In Matthew
28:19-20, Jesus instructs his disciples to use a "dandelion" type
strategy for impacting the world through multiplication; disciples
making disciples who make disciples. What if, in this season
of pandemic, the church paid attention to Jesus' instructions, and
began to live like dandelions? What would our neighborhoods
look like? What would our community look like? One
thing is certain, there would be no mistaking the fact that the
church has left the building!
