Nothing ruins a beautiful walk in the woods more then stumbling through a thorn bush--they scratch, tear and poke, sometimes taking all of the joy out of the experience! The same could be said about the amazing look of a freshly planted garden, with all of its dark, rich dirt all in a nice artistic rows...only to have it covered with quickly growing weeds and thistles. It seems like it's a constant battle to keep the thorns and thistles from overrunning the garden--again, stealing our joy! What gives?
This simple truth we often forget is this: life
is hard. There is no way around it. As
much as we work for perfection, stability and comfort, something
will always break, wear out or fall apart. Why is this?
When we travel back to the beginning of humanity, Adam and Eve
decided they wanted to venture out on their own, they didn't need
God and the relationship he provided...and God gave them what they
wanted: A world of "thorns & thistles."
The amazing thing is that God is so good, and he never gives up on
people! He went right to work to help people live
in a world of "thorns & thistles" AND is preparing a day when the
hurts and brokenness of life won't steal our joy anymore.
