Everyone wants to be happy. All of humanity is on this
journey of trying to find the right path to true happiness.
The pursuit of happiness is nothing new, it's been going on for
millennia. In fact every religion, philosophy or wise
sage has tried to direct people to the right pathway of
happiness. If one was to sum up all different happiness
pathways that have been suggested, they could be gathered together
in these four categories: family, wealth, health and
security.
If one does well in those four areas, hypothetically, they should
be happy. So what do you think, does that sound like the
right recipe for happiness? Whether it's right or not, it
does describe how a lot of people are trying to find
happiness. Do you know what else it describes? It feels
kind of like the four pillars of the "American Dream". How's
the "American Dream" going right now? Not well. With
rising rates of depression, addiction, overdoses and suicide
attempts the pursuit of happiness this culture offers is just
not looking to be the best option. So what are the other
options? Is it possible there is a pathway to happiness
people are overlooking?
As Jesus opens his ministry in the rural region of Galilee, he walks up a small mount and teaches his disciples what it means to live as citizens of the Kingdom of God. In this monumental sermon Jesus begins by teaching them what it looks like to live a blessed life. Interestingly, the word "blessed" can also be translated fortunate or happy. There it it! Jesus is providing a new and very unlikely pathway to happiness! Do you want to learn more about this unlikely pathway? Give a listen to our brand new sermon series, Apex.
